If a swimming pool with more than two feet of water is used
in an activity sponsored by you, then the swimming pool, either at
or away from your operation, must meet the following criteria:
(1) At least two life-saving devices must be available,
such as a reach pole, backboard, buoy, or a safety throw bag with
a brightly colored buoyant rope or throw line;
(2) One additional life-saving device must be available
for each 2,000 square feet of water surface, so a pool of 2,000 square
feet would require three life saving devices;
(3) Drain grates, vacuum outlets, and skimmer covers
must be in place;
(4) Pool chemicals and pumps must be inaccessible to
all children;
(5) Machinery rooms must be locked when any child is
present;
(6) All parts of the swimming pool, including the bottom
of the pool, must be clearly visible during the use of the pool;
(7) Pool covers must be completely removed prior to
pool use and must not present an entrapment hazard; and
(8) Swimming area rules and emergency procedures must
be posted at the swimming area and explained to the children.
