RULE §4.290Consequences for Non-Exempt Low-Producing Degree Programs

Preamble Texas Admin Code Rule

Coordinating Board staff will recommend to the institution's governing board or to an institution where a system does not exist the closure of any non-exempt degree program which has been on the annual list of low-producing programs for three or more consecutive years. If the governing board or institution does not accept the recommendation to close the program, then the university system or, where a system does not exist, the institution must identify the programs recommended for closure on the next legislative appropriations request submitted by the system or institution. [Once the institution has been notified that a degree program has not met the minimum standards for five consecutive years, the institution must:]

   [(1)Phase out or consolidate the low-producing degree program with another program or programs; or]

   [(2)Request a temporary exemption.]

This agency hereby certifies that the emergency adoption has been reviewed by legal counsel and found to be within the agency's legal authority to adopt.
