RULE §108.55Announcement of Credentials in Non-Specialty Areas
Repealed Date:05/01/2013

A dentist may announce additional credentials in an area of dental practice not recognized as a specialty by the American Dental Association (ADA), or the State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE), provided that:

  (1) the organization granting the credentials is recognized as a bona fide specialty accrediting organization by the ADA and the SBDE;

  (2) the organization granting the credentials grants certification or diplomate status based on:

    (A) the dentist's successful completion of a formal, full-time advanced education program of at least twelve (12) months duration;

    (B) the dentist's training and experience;

    (C) successful completion of an oral and written examination based on psychometric principles.

  (3) The following disclaimer appears in a reasonably clear and visible manner compared to the announcement of the status; "(Name of announced area of dental practice) is not recognized as a specialty area by the American Dental Association or the State Board of Dental Examiners."

  (4) The announcement shall also state that the services are being provided by a general dentist.
