| (a) A notary public seeking to renew either a traditional
commission or both a traditional and online commission shall file
an application for renewal in the same manner and on the same form
as if filing an original application for commission. The secretary
of state will accept applications for renewal not sooner than 90 days
before the expiration of the notary public's current commission. The
renewal must be received by the secretary of state no later than the
expiration date of the notary public's current commission.
(b) The secretary of state shall determine eligibility
for renewals according to the same standards as initial applicants,
in accordance with this chapter and §406.004, Government Code.
The secretary of state is not bound by prior determinations of eligibility.
