CHAPTER 30TEXAS HERITAGE TRAILS PROGRAM
RULE §30.1Object

(a) The Texas Historical Commission, hereafter referred to as the Commission, is authorized pursuant to Section 442.0088, Section 442.005(s) and Section 442.005(t) to promote the appreciation of historic sites, structures, or objects in the state through a program designed to develop tourism in the state and shall promote heritage tourism by assisting persons, including local governments, organizations, and individuals, in the preservation, enhancement, and promotion of heritage and cultural attractions.

(b) The Program must include efforts to:

  (1) raise the standards of heritage and cultural attractions around the state;

  (2) foster heritage preservation and education;

  (3) encourage regional cooperation and promotion of heritage and cultural attractions; and

  (4) foster effective local tourism leadership and organizational skills.

(c) The Commission established the Texas Heritage Trails Program (THTP) to achieve these goals and the intent of these rules is to provide a system by which the Commission may approve, fund, and monitor nonprofit organizations, for the purpose of participating in the program.
