RULE §23.62Authority and Purpose

(a) Authority. Authority for this subchapter is provided in the Texas Education Code, Subchapter J, Repayment of Certain Physician Education Loans. These rules establish procedures to administer the subchapter as prescribed in the Texas Education Code, §§61.531 - 61.540.

(b) Purpose. The primary purpose of the Physician Education Loan Repayment Program is to encourage qualified physicians to practice medicine in a health professional shortage area designated by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, and provide health care services to recipients under the medical assistance program authorized by the Texas Human Resources Code, Chapter 32, and to enrollees under the child health plan program authorized by the Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 62.
