(a) The facility shall meet the respiratory needs of
the patients in accordance with acceptable standards of practice.
(b) The facility shall adopt, implement, and enforce
policies and procedures that describe the provision of respiratory
care services in the facility.
(c) The organization of the respiratory care services
shall be appropriate to the scope and complexity of the services offered.
(d) Personnel qualified to perform specific procedures
and the amount of supervision required for personnel to carry out
specific procedures shall be designated in writing.
(e) If blood gases or other clinical laboratory tests
are performed, staff shall comply with Clinical Laboratory Improvement
Amendments of 1988 in accordance with the requirements specified in
Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, Part 493 (relating to Laboratory
Services).
(f) Respiratory services shall be provided only on,
and in accordance with, the orders of a physician, or other practitioner
practicing within the scope of their license.
