(a) Required Courses and Additional Areas of Study.
(1) At a minimum, the JJAEP must provide the following
courses at the JJAEP:
(A) English language arts;
(B) mathematics;
(C) social studies; and
(D) science.
(2) The JJAEP must provide the following additional
areas of study:
(A) high school equivalency program; and
(B) self-discipline, which may be integrated into the
program and may include topics such as drug awareness, anger management,
impulse control, and cognitive skills.
(b) Curriculum Development.
(1) A teacher certified by the State Board for Educator
Certification must oversee the development and implementation of the
educational curriculum.
(2) The JJAEP administrator must ensure that course
instruction is consistent with the essential knowledge and skills
of each subject of the foundation curriculum as defined by the rules
of the State Board of Education.
(3) The high school equivalency program curriculum
must address the elements required to pass the topics tested: English,
mathematics, science, and social studies. High school equivalency
program components may be integrated into the regular educational
curriculum.
(4) The JJAEP must offer an accelerated component for
each required area of instruction to support credit recovery at the
high school level and to regain academic and social skills at the
elementary and middle school levels.
