PART 19DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND PROTECTIVE SERVICES
CHAPTER 700CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES
SUBCHAPTER AADMINISTRATION
RULE §700.104Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry

(a) General description. As required in the Texas Family Code (TFC), §261.002, the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) maintains a central registry of reported cases of child abuse and neglect. The registry is maintained as a subset of information in the DFPS automated system, Information Management Protecting Adults and Children in Texas (IMPACT). While IMPACT is used for recording and storing all casework related activities for both child and adult protective services, the child protective services central registry consists only of information gathered during investigations of child abuse and neglect in cases which were given a disposition of "reason to believe" and the person had a role of designated perpetrator or sustained perpetrator.

(b) Retention period. Central registry information retention is equal to case retention. When the case containing the investigation record is no longer retained, the central registry information is also removed.
