General provisions.
(1) The employing superintendent or his or her designee
or authorized representative of a school district may renew an emergency
permit for the same assignment in the same school district for which
the initial emergency permit was activated.
(2) No individual may continue in the same assignment
for more than one school year of service on an emergency permit, except
as provided in paragraph (4) of this section.
(3) The total of semester credit hours or the equivalent
contact hours required to obtain certification appropriate for the
assignment shall determine the number of emergency permit renewals
for which the individual may be eligible. The following schedule shall
determine eligibility for emergency permit renewal.
(A) For six semester credit hours or less plus appropriate
examination requirements, an individual is not eligible for renewal.
(B) For seven semester credit hours or more plus appropriate
examination requirements, an individual is eligible for one renewal.
(4) Effective with the 1998-1999 school year, emergency
permits used fewer than 90 calendar days may be renewed for one additional
year of service, if needed.
(5) The superintendent or his or her designee or authorized
representative may renew an emergency permit provided the following
requirements and procedures are met.
(A) The emergency permit must be renewed for the same
assignment in the same school district.
(B) Official transcripts verifying completion of a
minimum of six semester credit hours or documentation of completion
of equivalent contact hours toward the appropriate target certificate
must be placed in the individual's personnel file.
(C) If the individual has not completed permit renewal
requirements as indicated in paragraph (3) of this section, the superintendent
or his or her designee must obtain hardship approval from the Texas
Education Agency prior to continuation of the assignment.
(D) The appropriate renewal of the emergency permit
application must be completed online prior to the beginning date of
duties for the current school year.
(E) The school district shall pay the appropriate fee.
