(a) To reduce the risk of adoptive placement breakdown,
you must offer counseling services to the adoptive family.
(b) Counseling services may be provided by your agency
or by an outside counseling resource.
(c) The counseling services must provide mental health
resources for the child, if applicable, the adoptive parents, and
other children in the care of your agency that are placed in the adoptive
home, including:
(1) Opportunities to debrief to process thoughts and
feelings related to a suicide attempt or suicide death;
(2) Referrals to community services and other resources
for a child who has suicidal thoughts or attempted suicide; and
(3) Referrals to grief counseling and suicide survivor
support groups.
(d) You must ensure that the adoptive family is aware
that counseling is available.
