(a) The department may demand the surrender of a person's
driver license or identification card when state law authorizes the
surrender.
(b) A driver license or identification card that is
suspended, revoked, canceled, disqualified, or denied that is not
demanded to be surrendered by the department can be held by the individual
and used for identification purposes only. Actual possession of the
driver license does not provide the individual whose driver license
is suspended, revoked, canceled, disqualified, or denied authorization
to operate a motor vehicle.
