The Public Transportation Division is responsible for: (1) preparing and updating a statewide comprehensive master plan for public transportation; (2) providing financial assistance through appropriate communication and the establishment of procedures for the development and processing of applications; (3) assisting local entities in securing financial aid offered by the federal government for the purpose of establishing, maintaining, or expanding public transportation systems; (4) administering the state public transportation funds and other monies appropriated by the Texas Legislature for public transportation purposes and established within the department budget, in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, statutes, ordinances, rules, and regulations; (5) providing technical assistance to district personnel and local jurisdictions; (6) representing the state in public transportation matters with federal officials, other state agencies, transit organizations, and local communities; (7) monitoring and sponsoring research and development activities to enhance public transportation development; (8) assisting in the development of policies by the commission, the governor, and the legislature; and (9) encouraging the coordination of public transportation services to eliminate waste, to generate efficiencies that will permit increased levels of service, and to further the state's efforts to reduce air pollution. |
