RULE §313.423Parade

(a) For purposes of the schooling list, the horses are under the control of the starter from the time the horses leave the paddock until dispatched at the start of the race.

(b) Except as otherwise provided by this section, each horse entered in a race shall parade, carrying the appropriate weight and equipment, from the paddock to the starting gate. The lead pony for a horse shall be ridden in a manner that permits adequate view of the horse by the patrons and stewards. The stewards may scratch a horse from the race if the horse fails to parade in accordance with this section.

(c) The stewards may excuse a horse from the parade, but shall require such a horse to pass the stewards' stand on its way to the starting gate.

(d) After the horses have passed the stands once, the horses may break formation and warm up until directed to proceed to the starting gate. The parade of the horses to the starting gate may not last more than 14 minutes, except in case of unavoidable delay.

(e) If a jockey is injured during the parade or at the starting gate, the horse must return to the paddock and be resaddled with the replacement jockey's equipment. The horse must return to the starting gate carrying the replacement jockey.

(f) If a jockey is thrown on the way to the starting gate, the jockey must remount the horse at the point where the jockey was thrown.
