Preamble Texas Admin Code Rule

A specialist may announce additional credentials in an area not recognized as a specialty by the ADA or SBDE, provided that:

  (1)the organization granting the credential grants certification or diplomat status based on:

    (A)the dentist's successful completion of a formal, full-time advanced education program of at least twelve (12) months duration;

    (B)the dentist's training and experience;

    (C)successful completion of an oral and written examination based on psychometric principles.

  (2)The announcement must include the following language "(Name of announced area of dental practice) is not recognized as a specialty area by the American Dental Association or the State Board of Dental Examiners."

  (3)Specialists shall not announce their credentials in a manner that implies specialization in a non-specialty interest area.

This agency hereby certifies that the adoption has been reviewed by legal counsel and found to be a valid exercise of the agency's legal authority.
